Dr. Markos Tibbo

Position: Senior Livestock Development Officer - FAO

Markos Tibbo is Senior Livestock Development Officer of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). Based in Abu Dhabi (UAE), he is responsible for FAO technical support to GCC States and Yemen. Previously, he has been working at FAO headquarters (Rome, Italy), as staff member of the animal production and genetics group, responsible for guiding FAO member States in animal production and productivity improvement and management of animal genetic resources. Based in Cairo (Egypt), he also worked at FAO’s Regional Office for the Near East and North Africa as regional Livestock Officer and provided technical assistance to member States. Before joining FAO, he worked for two formerly the Consultative Group for International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) Centers (ICARDA and ILRI) holding various research positions. He received his Ph.D. in Animal Science (especially Genetics and Breeding) from Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU, Uppsala, Sweden) and D.V.M. (a degree of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine) from Addis Ababa University (Addis Ababa, Ethiopia). He has over 28 years of experience in animal production and health (research, development, policies, and practices) in Africa, Europe, Middle East and South Asia.
Dr Tibbo has authored or co-authored over 140 scientific and technical publications, books, and chapters in books and received a number of awards. He served in various professional associations, editorial boards and as regular reviewer of articles for scientific journals.
